Some time in late 2000, during my 12 month stint in Rome, I was sitting in a small pizzeria, in the east side of, San Lorenzo, the University quarter of Rome, with some friends from my language school, Torre di Babele, (http://www.torredibabele.com/). We sat there, chatting about world politics (it was in around the time of the Big Muck up in the American Election)...when we recognised a familiar face. Name unknown at this point, but we knew he was someone. We knew his work! Erin, the typical American, approached him and politely said to him that she was a "fan" of his work! He smiled and said "Grazia" but with that hint of an american twang. We googled him the following morning...never expecting to meet with this man again! But the following Friday evening, there sitting in the corner of this small, modest, and unasssuming pizzeria, conveniently located near our school, was this man again! We were armed with names and information, and again, approached this familiar face! He offered us to join his table we were a typical "I want to be President one day" American, a dodgey Columbian, an Irish lass, a Japanese dude and a German Madchen). And we ordered expresso's and Panna Cotta's...we were in awe, we were happy and most of all we were drunk and full!
